The Lotte Group continues to assert that general president Shin Kyuk-ho has lost control of his mental faculties. Support from Lotte Group's Japanese finance circles seemingly verifies this claim, and points to moves by the Lotte Group to forcibly distance itself from president Shin by declaring him incompetent in the eyes of the law.

Visit of Shigemitsu Hatsuko who is president Shin's wife, is being viewed as part of the legal process by which individuals are officially deemed quai-incompetent. According to Japanese Civil Law, only a spouse or kin of direct lineage may register an individual for legal incompetency. If the claims are verified, the property of the incompetent person passes down either to the spouse or is distributed evenly among the children. If the person of interest is declared quasi-incompetent, however, the property remains their own.

Considering this, it is generally being assumed that Hatsuko will take CEO Shin Dongbin's side in defending his status as quasi-competent. 신격호, 한정치산자 선고 추진?

롯데그룹측이 신격호(94) 롯데그룹 총괄회장이 제정신이 아님을 지속적으로 주장하고 있다. 일본 재계에서는 이런 움직임이 신 총괄회장을 '한정치산자'또는 '금치산자'(국내법상 피한정후견인)로 만들기 위한 노림수일 수 있다는 주장이 퍼지고 있다.
